First off, what is the commonly accepted definition of "educated"? Is someone "educated" if they have a high school diploma, or is a degree required? What about self-education or home schooling? Just where do short term classes (40 hours or less) fall in this?

Secondly, do most people automatically assume that "educated" means the person is intelligent? I personally work with several people who went to college, and have a degree, but I would not necessarily classify most of them as intelligent. In fact, I know many intelligent people who have nothing more then a high school diploma, even some who dropped out of high school and have a very successful life.

So why do some people assume that if a person is educated then they must be intelligent? What, exactly, does an education have to do with anything other then a job?
